A Story
I broke into a car for the first time this week.
We’re still getting used to the waste and recycling system around here and we accidentally missed Wednesday morning’s pickup. The maggot situation in the unemptied compost bin had grown untenable. The internet said bleach would help.
Hayley was running errands down in Halifax. I went to Home Hardware, my most-visited store in Pictou. When I got home, I shut off the car, tossed the keys on the passenger seat, gathered my bleach, spray bottle, and Diet Dr. Pepper, and got to work. It was an…unpleasant job.
On the other hand, I was making good progress on my to-do list. Half an hour later, I needed to leave to run another errand. No such luck.
Did you know that YouTube has instructions for how to break into different makes and models of vehicle?
My education continues.
An Update
The new Bayview Wonder logo was designed by Neely Prenzlow, a talented graphic designer who I worked with for several years.
Some details:
The logo was inspired by our wedding invitations back in 2019, which featured a loon representing Minnesota and a lobster representing Nova Scotia.
The blue represents water in both states. It’s calm and reflective.
The red of the lobster is also bright and bold, just like this major life change.
The sandy background is subtle and balanced. It’s rattan-like pattern reflects the pace of life on the coast and the Northumberland Strait’s quiet beaches.
The font selection and textured, weathered look seek to capture the feeling of an old tourism billboard or postcard. This also reflects Bayview Wonder’s focus on the events of the past and how they’ve shaped our experiences today.
The arrow, I think, is obvious.
A History Lesson
It’s my last weekend in Nova Scotia before returning to Minnesota, so I’m trying to squeeze every last drop out of a visit to Pictou Island. Look for a longer post on Wednesday as usual.
In the meantime, I recently came across this documentary program about Pictou from 1994. For a kid born in the late 80s, this kind of show is peak nostalgia. The episode was part of the Sketches of Our Town series that ran in Canada from 1985-1996.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the reminder of this profile of Pictou, JJ.
You know you're from Pictou when you get a bit of a lump.in your throat watching the video. Thanks and enjoy your last weekend..
